Nightlife:
London is a paradise for late-nighters. In the centre of town you’ll
find people on the streets until 2 or 3am and until dawn in Soho.
If you don’t have the stamina for dancing the night away after
spending all day traveling around the city there are lots of other
things to do. Pubs are always lively particularly on Fridays when
Londoners let their hair down at the end of the weeks work. The
trendiest bars are in the central areas of Soho, Piccadilly and
Covent Garden.
The Lamb and Flag, 33 Rose Street, Covent Garden
This old wooden building dates from 1623 and is one of the few buildings
to have survived the Great Fire of London in 1666. Charles Dickens
was a regular drinker here and if you’re looking for a pleasant
traditional pub full of history this is the place.
The French House, 44 Dean Street, Leicester Square, Soho
This is a favourite haunt of many artists, writers and other bohemian
types. You can buy bottles of wine here and the place has a very
relaxed atmosphere.
Whether you paln to catch a stage show at the West End, want to
see some live music or even spend the night dancing your heart out
at a posh London Club, London is a great place for both entertainment
and nightlife. Every week in London there are over 200 different
kinds of dance nights in the clubs and it can be difficult to find
your way through the jungle to the one that is right for you. So
your choice of club is based not on the place itself but on the
type of music it is hosting on that particular night, either way
a fun night is guaranteed for all.
The Blue Note, 1 Hoxton Sq, Old Street
Drum ‘n’ bass and jungle- all high quality sounds and
a very friendly atmosphere.
If you have come to London to see a show make sure you book your
tickets well in advance. You can do this through the London Tourist
board or the British travel centre or directly from your hotel.
Shopping:
London Fashion Week has become a trend-setting fixture in the catwalk
calender. Everyone shows here, from classic designers who dress
‘A’ list celebs to up-and-at-it streetwear for a unique,
outrageous look. London is truly becoming a fashion parade, shopping
hours are extending and many outlets are open 24 hours a day 7 days
a week. More and more shops are open on Sundays and most of the
junk markets are also open on Sundays.
On Saturday afternoon you could make a trip to Hampsted, where
two busy streets stay open for business until the evening. Bond
Street is the place to go if you are looking for the best and most
trendy places to go shopping in London. Everything from the absolute
latest in fashion to perfulme, art and antiques can all be found
here. The best known street for shopping in London is Oxford Street,
it is the most famous where you can buy more of the same. These
streets have designer shops ready to dazzle you so have your credit
card readly!
